Sumpod Delta stepper motor problemo

Just getting to the stage in the assembly I hate most......electronics.
I rigged up what I thought was correct and then surprise surprise no movement in the stepper motors.
All I want is for them to move up so I can assemble it easier. But I guess it will need to work at some stage.

After rigging up the following:
I then opened up Pronterface, hit the connect button and got this:
Looks promising you might think, NO. When I pressed the 1mm button for all axis not a sausage of movement happened.
Going onto the reprap forum to see if any of the gurus of electronica knows.
Fingers crossed.

Orcabot is back in town!!!!!!!

My trusty Orcabot had an inrtermittent problem with the bed heater and resulted in stopped builds.
I've since discover what it was:
Explanation below:

Decided to turn Orcabot onto it's belly (which was tricky and I thought it might have bit me!)
only to discover that the thick yellow wire of the heater held in by the Nylon grommet thingy was a bit bent and dark. This could mean only one thing.

I split open the pvc uncovering the exposed broken wire.
How could it have broken such a thick wire?
I know.....wear and tear it's called!
Bed moving backwards and forwards millions of times did it.

Rapidbot extruding fillament with bubbles in.

My new Rapidbot 3.0 is not extruding well.
As you can see from the picture it is coming out the hotend with bubbles in it.

Now I have read somewhere that it might be something to do with moisture in the air and filament getting too humid, but I have tried the same reel in my Orcabot and it works fine.

Anyway, going to post on Reprap forum to see if any one else has experienced the same effect.

In the out of focus video you can still see the offending air bubbles. Can I get a fix please?

Calling all product designers

Magicmodel can help new product designers using google sketchup.

Gopro webcam brackets custom made can be 3DPrinted to a good accuracy for a reasonable price.

What makes these custom designed products even better is that they are 3D Printed using the actual strong industrial plastic that commercial products are injection moulded from.

Classic renaissance sculpture

A 3D Artist from California named David Foster is helping to reduce the cost of 3DPrinting. Magicmodel successfully managed to achieve a new layer resolution of 0.1mm with the new silver material.

I'm sure you will agree that the results were quite impressive, but most of that is due to the wonderfully proportioned sculpt of the classic female nude. Check out the pictures below.

The model stands at 8 inches tall from the base and is the tallest build achieved on the Orca with a hexagonal internal structure to make the part really strong.

I just wish I could get down to the 3DPrintshow2012 this weekend but I'm working....doh!

Driving down the cost of rapid prototyping

Until recently rapid prototyping machines were reserved (some still are) solely for the high end engineering business. Gradually the term of rapid protptying is now becoming more familiar as 3DPrinting.

Magicmodel aims to help reduce the cost of 3DPrinting in order to give more people the chance to make their virtual design become a reality.

With the help of the first Orca 0.42 in Scotland Magicmodel can now offer a 3DPrinting service with real engineering experience at a reasonable cost.

3D Print of Simon V7 Fighting

This is one of my first test prints from my very own marvelous magicmodel machine. Its a digital model of Simon from Poser7.........many more to come.

At the moment the resolution is not as sharp as industrial (expensive) 3dprinters but it's getting better all the time. Figure is 72mm tall. The beauty is any character is 100% pose-able.

Please be aware that most of the images on this blog were taken with the iphone 3G, so quality is not the best!

3D Printing Scotland

Scotland is proud to present the first ever Orca 0.42 reprap 3d printer from Mendelparts.
We have yet to find out if it was well worth the wait as the ordering time was delayed greatly because of a backlog, and one can only guess it is because there was so much demand for such a cool looking design (with some very impressive demo prints)

More to come.........

Makerbot Thingiverse and Rapman Home 3d Printers

An exiting revolution is happening in the wonderful world of 3D Printing. Replicators are popping up all over the online community and hobbyists and 3d printing enthusiasts are now beginning to print useful things.

This is an extremely important step in the world of consumerism, where no longer will we need to go to the local hardware shop to purchase a crevice tool for our Dyson because the dog accidentally thought it was a bone!

Yes, now we can 3d print our own and use it straight away.

Think of the endless possibilities of products that these rapid prototyping machines could make. No more products on shelves gathering dust. Just 3D Printing on demand.

Who is going to store all the raw materials?
Where is China going to fit in to all this?

All will be revealed in the next 10 years!
Watch this space.

Games workshop warhammer

Just passed the Games Workshop in town and popped in for a look. Got into a cool painting demo from the nice and kind shop owner Stuart. Saw how cool some of the models were and decided to get my a*** in gear to offer custom bespoke characters to any scale:

This new service would also be useful for those making dioramas but especially cool for RPG role playing gamers to have a piece that is special to them rather that an 'off-the-shelf' orc or elf designed by A.N.Other.

Will be posting a price plan soon using the Mecha Warrior Space Pirate as a case study.

The Dentist Is Alive........

Big thank you to Scott Andrews of www.lightbeam3d.com
He 3d printed Wayne Robson's The Dentist for a really cool price.

It was made on his Perfactory machine with the mini-multi lens with an resin called Nanocure.
I'm sure you will agree that the resolution is the highest that can be achieved on any 3d printer in todays market.

I intend to use this as a master model to make a mould from so anyone wishing to purchase a casting then please get in touch magicmodel@hotmail.co.uk

What Camera?

Just went to look for a camera to take some nice new photos of figures for magicmodel website and low and behold the wife has thrown it in the bin!@!@£$:-(
It was a nice Nicon coolpix passed down from my father-in-law. The battery cover was knackered but I could still get a crackin photo using mains power.

The next step was to try and find the secondary camera, the panasonic lumix.......guess what it has mysteriously dissapeared.

That left my iphone or the sony camcorder.
Any way decided to try some test shots with the iphone to see if the macro was good enough......what macro indeed.

On another note I heard some bad electric cracklin noise where my 4 way adapter for the pc plugs into the wall. Decided to swap the old for the new, see photos below (taken with iphone)

No fizzy crackilin now yippe, no danger of pc accidental power failure caused by some old nineteen fifties electric socket. I'm off to listen to the Craig Charles funk and soul show.
